East-end comprehensive boys have beaten elite private-school pupils to win an international debating competition.
Year 13 pupils from St Bonaventure’s Roman Catholic comprehensive, in Newham, east London, beat teams from public schools, which included Dulwich College, Westminster School, and Haberdashers’ Aske’s boys’ school, to represent Britain in the competition and win the 2005 international schools’ mace.
They will be presented with certificates by Prince Philip at a reception at Buckingham Palace.
