A third of Britons cannot identify basic tools such as pliers and spanners. But Bamp;Q, in partnership with the National Schools Partnership, has stepped in to fill the DIY knowledge gap.
Students and teachers now have access to a series of lesson plans available for children as young as five on the Job Done! programme, which revolves around six units: Decorate It, Build It, Fix It, Grow It!, Health and Safety and Re-think. The aim is to improve the practical skills of young people.
Since launching for 11 to 14-year-olds last year, more than 1,000 secondary schools have signed up. Now, 650 primaries have also registered to download the lesson plans.
