What you have to do: We might soon have to carry identity cards in the UK.

Imagine you could take your own picture for your ID card. What image would best represent you? Would it be a self-portrait or a picture of your favourite friends, food or clothing? Using the theme of “Identity” and a digital camera, take pictures to explore the ways you define yourself.

Email your entries, along with your name, school and contact details and mark the subject “Photography Competition” to online_pictures@tes.co.uk or by post on a CD-Rom to Photography Competition, TES Online magazine, The TES, Admiral House, 66-68 East Smithfield, London E1W 1BX.

There are three categories: primary (5-10); 11-15; and 16-plus. Schools are limited to three entries per category. The closing date for submissions is August 31 2006.

NB: Online has experienced an email problem. If you have already responded to this competition please resend your entry.

The winning entries and “best of the rest” (parental permission required for pictures of children under 16) will feature as a gallery on the TES website and as an exhibition at the SS Robin floating gallery in Canary Wharf, London. Winners will be invited to a private view of the exhibition where they will be awarded their prize in November 2006.

Online is also launching a blog for teachers wishing to share ideas, discuss problems or ask questions about learning through pictures.
