Children have always informally rated teachers (“How do I rate my lessons?”, TES, March 14). Anthony Buckeridge, in his children’s book Jennings Goes to School, surely summed up the entire teaching profession in a single sentence. The boys, he wrote, “worked hard for Mr Carter because they liked his lessons; worked hard for the headmaster because they dared not do otherwise; and worked hard for Mr Wilkins when his manner indicated that things had gone far enough in the opposite direction”.
I believe that all school rules should require the agreement of a school council, elected without staff interference.
