If the PM trusts teachers, why does he obsess about Sats’ ‘accountability’?

Let’s see: a government without a mandate, which preaches democracy; a parliament riddled with expenses claimants, which promotes citizenship; and education ministers who sermonise on the importance of literacy, yet are unable to read the Alexander Report properly.

Now we have a Prime Minister who has presided over Ofsted, the General Teaching Council for England, the code of conduct for teachers, the proposed five-yearly MOT and the manic centralisation and initiativitis that has dominated education.

And he tells us that he believes “we must place our trust” in teachers?

I haven’t laughed so much since Chris Woodhead was chief schools inspector.
