In “help for victims who suffer in silence” (TES, June 7). Gerald Haigh quoted a most important point - that the teacher is in the position “to notice a child’s distress and do something about it”.

This is not always the case due to factors including a lack of will on the part of the teacher and failure to see this as their responsibility.
