The importance of good care

I was in care at a late age, 18, and I know I have been fortunate in being socially mobile. But I also know that I am not alone, as your article (“Window of opportunity”, 17 February) testifies. If in care and wishing to progress, a supportive and enabling “home” background is vital, but the other key factors are good school attendance, sound teaching and motivation.
