The Ghost of Education Past was the spectre at the feast in Glasgow’s ArtHouse Hotel when pupils from the city’s special needs schools rounded off a hospitality course by preparing the tables and serving guests at a special dinner.

The ArtHouse, as Glaswegians well know, is a very posh conversion of the former education offices at 129 Bath Street, now the ultimate in carpeted luxury.

As guests reminisced over the preprandials about attending job interviews at “129” which led to greater things, one former teacher recalled another form of carpeting: “This is the first time I’ve been in this building without being the subject of a disciplinary hearing.”
