INCLUSION STRATEGIES; SUPPORTING EFFECTIVE INCLUSION AND ATTAINMENT. RNID. pound;17.50 plus postage. Tel: 0808 808 0123.

Although published by the RNID, this folder and CD does not restrict itself to the deaf or hearing impaired, but looks at inclusion strategies for all children with special needs. The advice is generic and provides an informative resource for any teacher who wishes to make his or her classroom more inclusive.

The publication is aimed at those in their first years of teaching, but even an experienced teacher, adviser or mentor will find it packed with ideas. There is information on teaching materials and strategies; discussion of academic and social inclusion; advice on technical and environmental aids; where to get advice on specific needs; parental partnership; and implementing the Disability Discrimination Act. The importance of seeking the learners’ views on the support received is recognised and each section has an activity promoting this. With an easy to use format, this is a valuable staffroom resource.
