Many new teachers are choosing classroom administration over senior management jobs in business, a new survey by the Teacher Training Agency reveals. The survey showed that 30 per cent of new secondary teachers had previously held a management or senior position in industry, and 22 per cent had left a middle rank professional role. Nearly a quarter of new maths teachers had been bankers or accountants, and 16 per cent of science teachers worked in science or pharmaceutical industries. The survey questioned 571 career-changing secondary NQTs.
