Martin Thomson of the music department at King’s Park Secondary in Glasgow is Scotland’s most “inspirational teacher”, according to the judges of this year’s national education awards.

Mr Thomson was nominated by his pupils and the awards ceremony in Hampden Park last week heard how his “infectious enthusiasm” was responsible for “an incredibly high standard of instrument playing”.

He was praised for his “unrivalled” vitality and energy and the citation added: “His dedication and commitment to the advancement of his pupils’

skills is exemplary. His friendly, approachable and relaxed nature has bred confidence within his pupils.”
