The movie 300, telling the story of the Spartan army at the Battle of Thermopylae, is very popular with young people - so the last question in the Credit paper for Standard grade will have been a popular one with students, predicts Anne Everest, one of the depute heads of Robert Gordon’s College.
It was on the whole a very fair paper, but she found the question on Socrates’s motives in not escaping “a little curious” as it called for pupils to use their background knowledge rather than curricular learning - and that knowledge would differ from school to school.
“Some of our pupils came up with some ingenious answers - but they were not informed,” she said.
