A High Court injunction to halt a special committee at Stoke on Trent College from taking further action against principal Neil Preston and assistant director Helen Chandler was dismissed earlier this week.

The injunction was taken with the backing of the Association of Principals of Colleges following concerns that the committee and governors had not adequately declared the procedures for the inquiry.

Both Mr Preston and Mrs Chandler were due to appear before the committee last week. Both are off work with stress-related illnesses. The committee was set up as required under the college constitution where governors may consider dismissing or taking other action against senior staff.

They did so following allegations by some staff that there was bullying and that a “climate of fear” had been created at the college.
