Inspection success soured by petty criticism

As a teacher at Strand junior school, Grimsby, I was proud to read your report on our Office for Standards in Education inspection. But this feeling turned to disappointment after reading the letter from S J Percival (TES, September 29). This letter supposes that because Strand received an excellent report from OFSTED, that we, as staff, have become complacent and are basking in some sort of ill-gotten glory.

I would like to point out that this could not be further from the truth. We are a hard-working staff who have not only taken on the praise from OFSTED, but also the points for improvement. We are not now lying back and enjoying our praise, we are, as we always have done, striving to make constant improvements in line with the recommendations which OFSTED made.

I feel very hurt by S J Percival’s letter when all we have been shown to be doing is an excellent job in providing our children with knowledge and skills to help them in the future. Isn’t that what we are there for? Can we not just be allowed to do this without being undermined with what seems to me to be petty criticism?
