To the tale of a Glasgow heidie who found out he was to have a surprise inspectors’ visit the next morning. He rushed into school early and was horrified to discover, scrawled across the entrance, the words: “This is a pish school”.

With only 10 minutes before the inspector was due, all he could think of doing to remedy the situation was to ask one pupil loitering in the playground to take a pot of paint and a brush and quickly change the “i” to an “o”.

When the inspector arrived, his first words were: “You’ve clearly got a bit of a problem with literacy in this school.”

The lad had altered the graffito to read: “Thos is a pish school.”
