Inspector praises Tory ‘boot camp’;In brief

THORN Cross, the young offender institution in Cheshire, described as a “boot camp” by the Conservative government, has been highly praised by the chief inspector of prisons.

Its programme was described as being “one of the most exciting developments in the Prison Service”. Education and vocational training staff were doing excellent work. Physical education was a daily feature in the lives of all young prisoners which included supervised camping trips.
