Europe’s first national network of science centres has been created in Scotland with the announcement by the Scottish Executive of four-year funding of Pounds 13 million and the publication of its science centres strategy. The country’s four science centres, located in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen, will compete less and collaborate more, while developing joint education initiatives that foster the long-term goal of creating a “four-site centre of excellence”. Benefits to the hundreds of thousands of pupils and teachers who visit the science centres every year will include closer links to the curriculum and larger-scale education projects that deliver hands-on science in inspiring settings.
