A Musical Mystery Tour - A Young Person’s Introduction to Instruments of the Orchestra, has been created in children’s TV format. Produced in partnership with the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, with funding from the Scottish Arts Council, by film company 1A Productions, the DVD is designed for use by classroom primary teachers as an additional resource to inform and encourage young people to get involved in music-making. It runs for 33 minutes and is presented in 10 “chapters”.
Children’s presenter Garry Lavin takes children on a journey of musical discovery as he looks at the impact of music on video games, cartoons and adverts. He then visits a music shop where he unearths a variety of unusual instruments, before calling on Moffat Primary to see and hear pupils’
musical instrument inventions.
In Rolf Harris mode, he proceeds to sketch out a map of the orchestra before the action moves on to the RSAMD, where young musicians share their thoughts on playing music and why they chose their particular instrument.
Cost to schools is pound;2.50 per video. For more information, contact Alan Cameron at AlanC@dumgal.gov.uk
