Kirsten Wilson is right. Not enough people recognise how rewarding and professionally fulfilling teaching can be. Teaching is “a wonderful profession” not only because it is of the utmost importance to every aspect of our social, technological, cultural and economic prosperity, but also because it is personally and intellectually challenging, requiring immense creativity, skill and versatility as well as in-depth subject and professional knowledge. At the heart of the Teacher Training Agency’s teacher recruitment strategy is a commitment to ensuring that teaching is recognised more widely as the high quality profession it is.
We will continue to take every opportunity to make that clear - after all, without the teaching profession, there would be no other professions.
