Intermediate Technology was founded more than 30 years ago by E F Schumacher, with the aim of furthering technologies that give people greater control over their lives. Its new booklet development@IT is directed at GCSE and A-level students. Not only does it set out clearly what development is and how it’s assessed, it explains why there is a “development gap” and how aid and sustainability offer different solutions for poorer countries. It uses case studies, photographs ad cartoons to make a number of points that disturb the complacencies of the educated no less than the prejudices of the uninformed.
