DEPRIVED communities across England will get home access to the Internet, thanks to a pound;10 million Government project to assess how the web can transform people’s lives. Homes in a number of pilot estates, tower blocks and rural areas will be linked totheir own community web by the end of 2001 with access to government, education, health and job services. Only 18 per cent of those from low socio-economic groups have a computer at home, compared to 65 per cent in the more well-off groups.
