Preparing research proposals or drawing up school policy statements can be made easier if details of recent or relevant Government documents are close at hand.

Internet-users might start such work by looking at the British Official Publications Current Awareness Service (BOPCAS). Now settled in at http:www.soton.ac. ukbopcas this free Southampton-based information service makes Government output easier to track down (if not always to read online).

A search on “numeracy”, for example, calls up details of nine recent Government papers with something significant to say on the subject. The information is well presented and quick to retrieve. You can also have information from your own field of interest e-mailed to you on a regular basis through an association with the Newcastle Mailbase facility. Details are on the BOPCAS site.
