Finding and gaining access to authoritative national data in a raw form has always been a challenge. BIRON (Bibliographic Information Retrieval Online) at the Essex Data Archive is an Internet resource that can help. The BIRON page is at: http:biron.essex.ac.ukcgi-binbiron

There is data on training, qualification levels, socio-economic indicators and hundreds of other social and economic variables. BIRON searches through descriptions of the stored data from more than 5,000 studies. These include many of the very large national series such as the Labour Force Survey, the General Household Survey, and the Youth Cohort Study of England and Wales.

More information about the free BIRON service, and links to help researchers can be found at: http:dawww.essex.ac.ukintroductionbiron.html
