Conferences play a key role in giving early notice of research results to the scholars and others who are able to attend. The Internet has opened up possibilities for conferences to reach wider audiences and for teachers and researchers to learn more about the work of conferences without leaving home.
Lists of recent and forthcoming conferences can be found at the British Educational Research Association website at http:www.bera.ac.uknotice.html and at the National Information Services and Systems gateway, located at http:www.niss.ac.uknoticeboardeventsocevent.html
Many of these conferences have their own websites. Candidates for superteacher status might be interested in a virtual journey to Canada this spring for the Sixth International Conference on Teacher Research. The conference will be in Toronto, but the website is already running, and available at http:www.ubishops.ca.gseictr.html
One of the goals of this conference will be to encourage greater acceptance of teachers’ own research as a valid route to improved teaching.
