Those of us who wrote Free Range Education were delighted by the review of our book (Friday, February 2). However, the suggestion that Mary Rose’s comment about the good manners of home-educated children might raise the hackles of dedicated teachers was an ironic contrast to the Talkbackin the same issue about the dinner lady sacked for insisting that those she served should say “please” and “thank you”. For us, the irony was compounded by the fact that Mary has 23 years of solid teaching experience behind her.
