Proposals to scrap post-14 transfers to Hautlieu, Jersey’s selective state secondary school, and change its status to a sixth-form college by 2000 have divided public opinion.
The island’s 52 “elected members” are debating plans to re-shape its state education system after a review by the Office for Standards in Education. Inspectors said that pupils’ needs were not always appropriately identified or met and that GCSE and A-level standards were lower than expected.
Imogen Nicholls, a Jersey MP, said the proposals for change had prompted a massive outcry.
