It was a question, not a proposal

YOUR article “GCSE failures could be teachers” (July 27) was factually wrong.

The Teacher Training Agency (TTA) has not proposed lifting the requirement of GCSE grade C or better in English, maths and science.

In the consultation document, the exact opposite is stated.

However, a question in the response booklet asks if this requirement should be lifted, and was placed because of comments the TTA heard during the monitoring and review of Circular 498.

This question in no way constitutes a TTA proposal, although the response could, as a part of the consultation process, lead to a lifting of the requirement.
