Some primary teachers remain sticklers for old-fashioned correctness. One was asking her P1 intake their names. “Jenny,” came the first reply.

“No, it is Jennifer,” said the teacher. “What is it?”

“Jenny”.

Several times the child was firmly corrected - “Jennifer”.

Eventually the teacher passed to the next girl. “I am Lucifer.”
