It's the ethos that separates schools

TO SEE church schools, as your correspondent does, as "sectarian" and "hampering rather than enhancing community relations" is a staggeringly jaundiced view (TES, January 14).

Far from "religion being taught as fact" as the National Secular Society's general secretary alleges church schools are state schools and must provide a broadly similar curriculum. It is the ethosof the school which is different.

Far from dividing communities the Christian approach to life is to educate, not indoctrinate; to help and not to exploit; to show compassion and the highest of all community values: neighbourly love. Christ's message of peace and love are the best qualities a community can possess.
