SCHOOLS and local authorities have received their toughest warning yet that Cathy Jamieson, Education Minister, wants far swifter action on improving the exam performance of looked-after children.
Ms Jamieson’s broadside comes a month after an Audit Scotland report showed that six out of 10 young people are leaving care with no Standard grade award in English and mathematics.
On Wednesday, she pledged that school and social work inspectors will pay closer attention to the attainment drive, with a particular focus on the “designated” teachers who champion the efforts of looked-after children.
Councils have been accused of slow progress in establishing full-time schooling for each child and individual care plans .
