In your report (TESS, January 31) Dan Brown of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities said: “We should be paying people for the job they are doing.”

As one who is directly involved with job sizing, I am acutely aware that the job sizing process only takes account of a post holder’s contractual responsibilities. There is no recognition at all of the myriad of other things which teachers do daily to run the system as their employers wish.

One would hope, therefore, that teachers will in future only “do the job they are paid for”.

If this comes about, Mr Brown and his colleagues will realise very quickly that they get their education service on the cheap and that they will have to pay teachers more for extra duties if they want to continue with everything that is currently done .
