So there is concern over recruitment of sufficient mathematics teachers to fulfil future demands (TES, June 21). I qualified as a maths teacher in 1993 and have still not managed to obtain a post.

I have a good honours degree and industrial experience. I have worked as a voluntary classroom assistant in a college and a secondary school while continuing to apply regularly for advertised posts as well as writing prospective letters. In the time since I have qualified I have had the grand total of two interviews and no job offers. Local education authorities say I cannot do supply work because I have no paid experience in a school.
