At least 45 career changers and mature entrants to teaching will be able to train “on the job” in schools in 2005-6, courtesy of the graduate and registered teacher programmes in Wales. The courses, offering salary grants of up to pound;13,000 and up to pound;4,000 for training, are targeted at secondary shortage areas: mathematics, science, modern foreign languages,information and communications technology, design and technology, Welsh and English (including drama).
