There has been a big jump in those likely to take maths at university. The number of candidates sitting Advanced Higher maths jumped 11 per cent to 2,752. Achievement also showed a significant rise, with a pass rate of 69 per cent improving on last year’s 65.1 per cent. Uptake could rise again next year, given the 4.5 per cent increase in Higher candidates, up to 19,633. Their pass rate of 71.6 per cent improved on last year’s 70 per cent.
