I am looking for a new teaching post and applying for positions advertised nationally. I appreciate there are a lot of teachers chasing a dwindling number of positions and that most schools are short of money. However, I do not appreciate the way most headteachers do not bother to inform me when my application has been unsuccessful.

The conduct of headteachers is meant to be exemplary. This is not the way to treat applicants who may have spent several hours preparing applications. All that is required is a statement in the advertisement that applicants who have not heard by a certain date should assume they have been unsuccessful.
