Lilian Katz, the esteemed American professor, was suitably honest about her worth when she addressed nursery and infant teachers last week in Stirling (page 6).
“I checked the dictionary for a definition of academic. It says of ‘little practical value’,” she admitted.
Katz did, however, manage to recall the conversation with one child celebrating his sixth birthday who was quite unware what six meant. His pal asked if he could recall when he was a baby.
“About 10 years ago,” replied the wise and numerate youngster.
