Ceitidh: It depends on what you want to be, what it is you are trying to do.
Charley: It also depends on how hard you try. You have to try your best.
Isabel: Your absolute best.
Ceitidh: There’s some jobs and ambitions that are just a bit too impossible.
Charley: A millionaire, billionaire, gazillionaire
Ceitidh: You can’t do things like that. It’s hard to get management jobs instead of just being an employee, because you’d have to own the company to become very rich. But if the person retires, and you’re their best employee, they might give you the job.
Isabel: I think people say that you can be anything you want - to give inspiration.
Ceitidh: To make them try harder.
Charley: To get the motivation for it.
Isabel: And to make them think: “Oh well, if it is possible, then I should actually try harder.”
Ceitidh: That sometimes works, if you set your mind to something you think you know you can do.
Isabel: If you want to do it.
Charley: This morning, I told our PE teacher what I was going to be, and he said: “They are quite good choices but you’d have to work really hard to do it”.
Ceitidh: What are they?
Charley: An Olympic runner, a forensic investigator or a firewoman. Either one. I quite like running - running is a really big thing to me, but I’d quite like to be a forensic investigator.
Isabel: You have to do a lot of practice and a lot of hard work.
Ceitidh: You have to get very good marks in your Highers and things. So when people see them, they think: “Oh, they’ve got good marks, they must be really clever or good with this.”
Isabel: I would quite like to work with animals. I’m not sure what sort of work. Maybe a vet. Not really a zookeeper because you don’t get to do much actual stuff with animals, if you see what I mean. It’s shovelling poo and shovelling in more hay for them to eat.
Ceitidh: I think you probably do better in the world if you have an ambition, because then you could work harder and it would give you something to try for. If you have nothing to lose, you’re not gonna try hard. There are two things I want to be - a wildlife photographer or a court lawyer.
Charley: I wanted to be a fashion designer when I was younger.
Ceitidh: I wanted to be a coal miner, because when I watched Snow White, you know the wee dwarfs get gold? I thought that was really cool, so I wanted to get gold in coal mines. You don’t really get miners any more.
