Bryan Kirkaldy, yes a Fife lad, can be no stranger by now to various howler efforts to get his name right. If Bryan is not a hostage to fortune, Kirkaldy certainly is.

The keenest eyes will note that the Kingdom’s leading education psychologist (page six) is ot an exact replica of the estimable burgh of Kirkcaldy.

But even he was taken aback to discover that the papers for last week’s parliamentary education committee described him initially as “Bryan Kinghorn”. Mr Kelty was, no doubt, wearily amused.
