BUSY TIMES at the Teacher Training Agency - a new boss and half-a-dozen new board members are all feeling their way. How the Diary would like to be a fly on the wall at one of their board meetings.

For among the new college chiefs, headteachers and professors on the TTA’s governing body, is Chris King, director of that leading supply agency, TimePlan.

Chris’s appointment is particularly well-timed. TimePlan has just been dumpd from the contract to fill the TTA’s 600 on-the-job training places for maths and science teachers.

The firm had been giving its all for almost a year, but sadly it managed to fill only 100 places. Schools, it seems, just didn’t want to know, and the whole scheme has been shelved.

Chris will take to the board a wealth of experience of teacher supply and the private sector. Those meetings should be entertaining ...
