Labour minister backs academy plan

The architect of Labour’s academy programme has backed the Government’s decision to open up the scheme to all state schools. Lord Adonis, who served as an education minister in Tony Blair’s government, said that neither he nor Mr Blair saw the independent state model as restricted to failing schools.
