Language colleges get the best GCSE results of all specialist schools, education junior minister Ivan Lewis told Parliament.
Sixty-two per cent of pupils at language colleges gained five or more A*- C grades at GCSE this year. Sports colleges achieved the lowest results, although supporters claim that they are often situated in disadvantaged areas.
Overall, a higher proportion of pupils at specialist schools gain five or more A*-C grades at GCSE, 54 per cent compared to a national average of 49.8 per cent.
Ivan Lewis was answering a question from shadow education secretary Damian Green.
