Bioindicators are highly relevant to the study of environmental issues at KS5. To obtain a variety of salient examples, students could enter "bioindicator" and an appropriate country into a search engine and pool their findings. The addition of key words such as "ecosystem", "unique" and "endangered species" also produces interesting results.
People's lives are shaped by their natural environment and this is reflected in language, for example there is no English equivalent of the Spanish word "siesta". It's a point worth reinforcing at KS3 to raise pupils' awareness of how language evolves.
