Still on the Ferri farewell, after a recent television appearance, union offices in Edinburgh received an irate e-mail from a Mr Angry of Irvine:

“What a hideous little fascist Tino Ferri is. What the hell was that little ugly smeghead doing on television spouting nonsense?”

Ferri replied: “Hideous little fascist I can take, spouting nonsense, even little, but never ugly.”

And since we began with some poetry, we can finish with a Ferri-adapted offering from W S Gilbert:

“If you wish in this world to advance, Your merits you’re bound to enhance; You must stir it and stump it, And blow your own trumpet, Or, trust me, you haven’t a chance.”

Quite.
