* Lawyers for a 16-year-old boy imprisoned for 100 days for writing a threatening poem took his case to California’s Supreme Court last week, potentially triggering a landmark ruling on how teachers should deal with such conduct.

The student, “George T”, served his sentence at a youth prison last year after writing: “I can be the next kid to bring guns to kill students at school”, in a poem circulated at his San Jose school.
