Do

* Put learning first and make technology a servant of learning

* Recognise that learning is a social process and we learn from others by interacting with them

* Find out the norms for learner space (2.5m2 per person) - now double it

* Ensure the use of the space is obvious. If you have to tell people what to do you haven’t got it right

* Acknowledge we live in a hybrid world in which there is a continuing need for access to paper-based information

* Provide opportunities for learners to play with ideas

* Use informal learning as a route into formal learning Don’t

* Isolate learners with study cubicles

* Give more space to the computer than the learner

* Institutionalise and formalise learning any more than you need to
