THE Government’s personal adviser service for 16 and 17-year-olds helped 3,500 young people into education, training or employment during its first six months.
Between September 1999 and March 2000, 17,500 young people joined the Learning Gateway and at the end of March, more than 11,000 were still on it. But 60 per cet of those who left went into some form of learning or into a job.
Malcolm Wicks, lifelong learning minister, described the figures as “an encouraging start”. He was responding to a question by Conservative spokesman, James Clappison.
