THE biggest-ever research project into further education will be announced today by the Economic and Social Research Council.
Some 16 FE learning “sites” will provide the focus for an intensive examination of educational practice, learning and learning cultures. The principal aim of the four-year study, which has a grant of pound;815,000, is to “deepen the understanding of the complexities of learning”.
“Essentially we want to dicover how people learn,” said project director professor Martin Bloomer, of the Centre for Educational Development and Co-operation at the University of Exeter.
“We want to look at the cultural and social conditions of learning, and also classroom relationships.”
The research will involve collaboration between four universities and four FE colleges, the names of which are still being finalised.
