YOUR Briefing “Sick of school? Try work” (TES, July 10) contains an unfortunate error. The Department for Education and Employment is talking about “learning” - not “earning” - opportunities.

Work placements arranged by schools must be unpaid, in school time, supervised by teachers. Other arrangements will be illegal child employment.
