In Poland, EU studies take place in after-school clubs and through civics, which teaches pupils about the EU’s structure, functions and membership of aspects of the EU.
In Italy, children learn about Europe in citizenship lessons in primary school and the first year of secondary. However, the emphasis is on the Italian government.
In the Netherlands, students learn through modules in their history lessons. In Germany, the 16 lander, or states, decide how pupils should learn about Europe.
In Belgium, students are taught through geography and history.
Ireland, which holds the EU presidency, has launched a nationwide school poll to decide upon the logo for the country’s current status and a planning exercise for 2nd and 3rd-level business students discussing ideas about the presidency.
