Stirling Council has linked with the Joblink programme to provide unemployed people with work experience and vocational training in schools.

The Access to Support for Learning Assistants course covers skills in information technology, first aid, personal development, mock interviews, health and safety, legislation and Scottish Vocational Qualifications.

On completion, participants are guaranteed a job interview with the council’s children’s services and if successful will be placed on the supply list for learning support assistants.

Elaine Dixon took part in the programme last year. Within a few days of completing the course, she was offered a temporary contract at Braehead Primary where she had done her work experience. She now has a full-time contract at St Modan’s High.

The next SLA programme starts on August 30. Contact the Joblink co-ordinator, tel 01786 442777 or email sutherland@stirling.gov.uk
